NEW YORK – The Associated Press announced today that executive Charles Pavlounis has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer of the global news agency.
As CFO, Pavlounis will oversee all corporate finances, including accounting, financial planning and budgeting, treasury and internal audit. In addition, he will be responsible for global real estate, administrative services and procurement.
“Charles has extensive experience and a proven track record of strategic leadership,” said AP President and CEO Daisy Veerasingham. “He will play a key role in guiding our global news organization as the AP looks to the future.”
Pavlounis joins AP from Argus Holdings, LLP, where he served as executive vice president and chief business development officer. Previously, he was executive vice president of business development and CFO at CBS News, where he directed all financial matters and identified new business development initiatives, including content development, audio streaming and new revenue streams with strategic partners.
Prior to CBS News, Pavlounis was senior vice president and chief audit officer at CBS Corporation. Prior to his tenure at CBS, he held various financial management and corporate compliance roles at companies including Wyndham Worldwide Corp., Dun & Bradstreet, Interpublic Group of Companies, Mercer, Inc. and KPMG.
“It is an honor to join a storied news organization like The Associated Press, an organization renowned for its commitment to journalistic excellence and whose mission to advance the power of facts is of paramount importance,” Pavlounis said. “I look forward to working with the talented AP team to support this crucial work.”
Pavlounis, a certified public accountant, holds a bachelor’s degree from Pace University.
Pavlounis will replace Ken Dale, who is retiring at the end of this year.
“Ken has led the AP as an independent, nonprofit news organization through some of the most significant milestones in its long history, and we are deeply grateful,” Veerasingham said.
Dale, who joined AP in October 2000 in business development and was named senior vice president and CFO in 2004, has played a key role in guiding the independent news cooperative through a rapidly changing media environment.
