Developer-funded candidates for local office
To the editor:
It should come as no surprise that the Developer would like to extend his control over the Wildwood commissioners, where most of his development is taking place. He has a proven track record of handpicking and heavily funding his own candidates, as evidenced in the past and current Sumter County commissioner election.
We all need to vote against these choices by the Developer for Sumter County Commissioners, Lazich, Wiley and Coon. All three are heavily funded with thousands of dollars from the Developer and his businesses, contractors, family, etc.
Common sense would say that this financial support does not come without some conditions and expectations.
While I understand that any corporation has the desire to manage/control THEIR future, this is a free country and the residents should have a say in OUR future government. We will not let the Morse family dictate every aspect of our county government. We are free-thinking adults who have made it this far in life and are still able to make our own decisions.
We need people in these positions who can look at all sides of a situation, listen to the concerns of the county residents, and find reasonable solutions. That’s not to say that every developer’s idea or recommendation is wrong or bad, I agree with many of them. I just don’t want my elected officials to approve Morse’s every whim and desire because they are financially supported by the developer.
We will elect candidates, with no financial ties to anyone, who feel free to vote on the merits of proposals, which will benefit the residents of The Villages/Sumter County.
I personally support Deb Butterfield and Craig Estep. They are both committed to the residents and best interests of Sumter County. Above all, they are independent thinkers!
Please vote on August 20th!
