EthCC 2024 kicks off with key discussions on the future of DeFi and Web3

The Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) kicked off on July 8 in Brussels, bringing together developers, researchers, and crypto enthusiasts to discuss the evolution of Ethereum and DeFi.

On the opening day, discussions focused on limiting centralization in the financial sector and promoting decentralization. The event highlighted how Web3 and DeFi social platforms aim to give power back to communities.

Aave Founder and CEO Stani Kulechov inaugurated the morning discussions highlighting how Web3 and DeFi social platforms aim to empower communities. Kulechov emphasized that DeFi represents a transparent and borderless economy that transcends geographical and socio-economic barriers.

Kulechov said: “DeFi is inherently a transparent and borderless economy, allowing you to transact regardless of your background. It has seen significant growth and is here to stay.”

The first day also saw the launch of the 1inch Developer Portal by 1inch Labs. This new portal provides Web3 developers with efficient interactions with the RPC blockchain without having to run their own nodes, making development more accessible and simpler.

Lily Liu, co-founder of Operation Masks, discusses the emergence of PayFi, realizing the original vision of crypto since 2009. The industry is now focused on proliferating essential use cases, marking a return to the simplicity and utility of crypto technology.

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) has relaunched its website with a refreshed brand aesthetic, powered by the Thorin design system. While the app remains unchanged, the new look aims to improve the user experience.

Raffi Sapire, COO of the Uniswap Foundation, discussed the challenges faced by researchers in the DeFi space. He emphasized the need for collaboration across different chains and protocols to foster innovation and scalability. “Collaboration is essential for researchers to advance their research and advance the DeFi space,” Sapire noted.

The first day of EthCC set the tone, showcasing the immense potential and collaborative spirit that defines the Ethereum community. Leaders in the space focused on democratizing access and empowering individuals, emphasizing that the future of the technology lies in these principles.

As EthCC continues, attendees look forward to new ideas and innovations from the brightest minds in the Ethereum and blockchain communities. The conference promises to bring significant advancements in DeFi and Web3 technologies, leading the industry towards a more decentralized future.
