More than half of American workers are worried about their future finances
SALT LAKE CITY — Nearly half of American workers say they feel good about their finances, for now.
More people are feeling financially good, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t stressed or worried about the future.
53% of people say they are worried about money in the future, according to Bank of America Workplace Benefits Report.
DMBACertified financial planner Gerika Espinosa said uncertainty leads to some introspection.
“Whenever we have a recession in the market, like what happened in 2022, and things in the economy are (shaken), people are (shaken),” she said. “And then they start paying attention to their own situations (and) thinking ‘Okay, I need to take more responsibility and make sure things are going well.’
Espinosa said the best way to feel confident about your future finances is to follow basic spending principles. This includes things like paying off debt and living within your means rather than looking at the market. According to Espinosa, people usually read about the stock market. They mistakenly think it is the only determining factor of their financial future.
“Depending on what they read, it comes and goes,” she said. “But if you want to have security and stability, then you need to follow principles that are timeless and not follow what is happening and changes with the wind.”
