Senate Finance Committee Hearing Explores Rural Health Challenges
The AHA shared a series of proposals to strengthen rural health care with the Senate Finance Committee for a May 16 hearing titled “Rural Health Care: Supporting Lives and Improving Communities.” Proposals include policies that promote flexible payment options; ensure fair, timely and adequate reimbursement; strengthen the workforce; and improve maternal health. During the hearing, several members focused on access to obstetric services and increasing the number of medical residency positions granted to rural hospitals. Jeremy P. Davis, MHA, president and CEO of AHA member Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande, Oregon, and other healthcare leaders and policy researchers testified.
